Three Proposals to Save Energy, Improve
Transportation, Conserve Land & Resources Get To The Meeting Without Your Car Whereas, the state and federal governments sponsor public meetings and functions to which citizens are invited, andWhereas, public transportation, compared to automotive travel, saves energy, reduces noise and air pollution, and destroys fewer natural resources, Therefore, be it enacted and decreed that all notices and announcements of all government-sponsored and supported public gatherings and meetings include prominently displayed directions for reaching said gatherings by public transportation. Ten Cents Per Gallon For The Future Whereas, our planet is heating up, and our people are choking because too many people burn too much fossil fuel. Whereas, most Americans wish to combat fossil fuel overuse in transportation which causes half of all the noxious carbonaceous gas in our environment. Therefore, Congress shall impose a ten-cents per gallon impost on all imported petroleum products. The monies generated from this 10c/gal. impost shall be used exclusively for building and maintaining less-polluting and less-wasteful mass transit facilities, building greenways for walking and biking, supporting movement of goods by rails, educating the public regrading the health and environmental benefits of human powered transportation and train travel. ### Develop The Grand Harlem River Park & It's Associated Transportation Causeways Whereas, The Grand Harlem River Park and Causeway project, as proposed by Shorewalkers, would integrate parks and promenades on both shores of the Harlem River-Spuyten Dyvil Strait and would conserve and protect shore areas for use by local neighborhoods and visitors, and Whereas, the park would increase bio-diversity and encourage wetland flora and fauna, and include the development of salt-water marshes in the Hudson Strait, at the Northern Terminus of the Lake and at the Southern Terminus, near the 126th Street Causeway; and Whereas, the park will unite the Bronx and Manhattan neighborhoods; provide greenways, cultural and recreational resources, and serve as a destination for area residents and visitors throughout the seasons; improve the quality of life for people living in New York City, and Whereas, the causeways at the northen and southern end of the park will reduce vehicular congestion in the vicinity of East and Central Harlem; spur freight train use to Manhattan, decrease noise and air pollution, and damage to city streets; encourage use of the 2nd Ave. subway; and reduce number of autos in the CBD, Therefore, because we are all stewards of the environment and our natural surrounding, this legislative body supports the Grand Harlem River Park and Transportation Causeways project.
